Dutchess Ready For Memorial Day Celebrations

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Events will abound across Dutchess County for residents to celebrate Memorial Day and honor veterans.

Thursday, May 25: 

Castle Point: A special Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at the River Memorial Garden on Castle Point road.

Hopewell Junction:  A Memorial Day ceremony and breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. at John Jay High School, 2012 Route 52. 

Poughkeepsie: The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, 150 N. Hamilton St. will host a special ceremony at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a tribute to the 300th anniversary of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

Friday, May 26: 

Hyde Park: A USO show will be held at 7 p.m. at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library, 4079 Albany Post Road. Show will feature World War II era entertainment, comedy, Big Band music, historic newsreels. Contact Clifford Laube, 845-229-6225.

Saturday, May 27: 

Hyde Park: An encampment will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library, 4079 Albany Post Road. The event will include displays of vehicles, weapons, uniforms. The encampment will also feature members of the 240th Military Police Battalion, a National Park Service and Roosevelt Library living history program. 

Red Hook:  The Red Hook United Methodist Church will host its seventh annual memorial tribute service featuring the church choir and the Hudson Valley Ecumenical Choir. 

Sunday, May 28: 

Milan:  The annual parade and ceremony begin at 11:30 a.m. from the Milan Town Hall. 

Pawling:  Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 22 Coulter Ave. will hold a special ceremony displaying 380 flags on the church lawn beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Poughkeepsie: Nighttime event beginning at 8 p.m. at Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park at the flagpole. Music, honor guard, presentations, more. The public is invited to take part by bringing a flashlight, glow stick or other non-flammable lighted object to light up the Walkway.

  • Ceremony — Soldier & Sailor Fountain, South Avenue. 2 p.m., held by the . City of Poughkeepsie and American Legion Lafayette Post No. 37. 
  • Service — Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Poughkeepsie, at 10:30 a.m.

Rhinebeck: A ceremony and dedication will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Doughboy Memorial, East Market Street.

Wappingers Falls:  A special service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the New Hamburg Yacht Club, 5 Water St. 

Monday, May 29:

Amenia: A special ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Amenia Veterans Memorial Park.

Beacon: The American Legion Post No. 203 will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. at 413 Main St.

Beekman:  A parade and ceremony kick off at 10 a.m. at Town Hall, 4 Main St., and Fire House, 316 Beekman-Poughquag Road. 

Fishkill:  Parade and ceremony begin at 1 p.m. at  Main and Broad streets hosted by  VFW Post No. 1286 and Village of Fishkill. Begins at Church Street and proceeds down Main Street ending at Monument Square. 

Hopewell  Junction: Parade and ceremony get underway at 10:45 a.m. at the East Fishkill Community Center and East Fishkill Memorial, Route 82 and Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. 

Hyde Park: Parade and ceremony begin at 10 a.m. at the Roosevelt Theater, Route 9 to Town Hall, 4383 Albany Post Road. 

LaGrange: LaGrange Town Hall will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the War Memorial, 120 Stringham Road. 

Millbrook:  A parade and ceremony begin at 10 a.m. at the Tribute Garden Park, Franklin Avenue. 

Pawling: Parade and ceremony begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Utter Brothers, Memorial Drive to Veteran Memorial Plaza at the Village Green. 

Pine Plains: Parade gets underway at 10:30 a.m. at the Town Clock Memorial, South Main Street. 

Pleasant Valley: Ceremony hosted by the American Legion Post No. 739 begins at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Valley Mill Site, Main Street. 

Poughkeepsie: A special ceremony with guest speaker Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro begins at 11 a.m. at the Dutchess County War Memorial, Raymond Avenue and Main Street. 

Red Hook: Parade and ceremony begin at 10 a.m. at the Red Hook High School, 103 W. Market St., to Memorial Square Park. 

Rhinebeck:  Parade and ceremony get underway at 10:30 a.m. at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, Route 9, through the village to Rhinebeck Cemetery. 

Rhinecliff:  Flag raising ceremony at 9:15 a.m. in the center of town, hosted by American Legion Post No. 429. 

Staatsburg: Ceremony begins at 8 a.m. at the Veterans Honor Roll Monument, Dinsmore Park, Old Post Road, Staatsburg. Will include an honor guard from the Staatsburg Fire Department and members of the Amerscot Highland Pipe & Drum Band. 

Wappingers Falls:  Ceremony begins at 9 a.m. at Mesier Park, Main Street, and South Avenue.  Hosted by American Legion Post No. 427 and VFW Post No. 5913.
