Tompkins Mahopac Bank’s Tim Russell Hosts 20th Annual Benefit For MDA

BREWSTER, N.Y. -- Muscle-weakening disease dermatomyositis has not stopped Tompkins Mahopac Bank’s courier Tim Russell from enjoying a long and fulfilling life, and for the last 20 years, he has made it his mission to help others affected by various neuromuscular diseases.

Russell, a courier with the bank for more than 16 years, got his start in the delivery business when he was only 10 years old. As a child with just his bicycle, Russell started his “go-fer” business in Mahopac, bringing coffee, lunches and other items to various businesspeople in town, in an effort to keep his muscles strong and keep his neuro-muscular disease in remission. Several years later, Russell would become Tompkins Mahopac Bank’s courier, traveling around to the bank’s branches across Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties, once again keeping himself strong to combat his disease.

Since 1996, Russell has hosted this event, an evening of refreshments and entertainment to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year’s Benefit for MDA is on Wednesday, June 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Bull and Barrel Brew Pub, 988 Route 22 in Brewster. Tickets are $25, and there will be hors d’oeuvres, door prizes, music and raffles throughout the evening.

“The Muscular Dystrophy Association has done so much for me throughout my life, and I am pleased to give back as much as I can,” said Russell. “I hope that my story inspires others affected by forms of muscular dystrophy to live active and healthy lives.”

Join Tompkins Mahopac Bank at the event to help Tim and MDA in the fight to free individuals from the harms of muscular dystrophy. For more information, call MDA at 845-339- 0048, or Tim at 914-760-0859.
