Poughkeepsie Sets 'Mission Literacy' Goal, Unveiling At City Hall

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Poughkeepsie City School District is striving to reach its goal of ranking in the top 10 percent of the 700 school districts in New York State by 2020, according to an announcement.

Mayor Rob Rolison and the members of the Common Council will soon unveil the Mission Literacy framework at City Hall.

The initiative is to improve student achievement, graduation rates, college placement, and career readiness, the announcement said.

It includes Book Baskets, summer reading logs, and Summer Pak, a reading program designed to decrease “summer learning loss.”

“It is so important for City government to support the efforts of our school district. Working together, we can achieve real results for the residents of our City who are our future leaders," said Rolison.

The Mission Literacy framework will be unveiled Thursday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at City Hall, 62 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
