The annual ceremony honors local individuals who volunteer their time and resources with The Arc of Dutchess and the community at large. Nominations can be submitted online through the organization’s website from now through June 15.

“The Arc of Dutchess is grateful for the local ‘stars’ who help us provide essential services here in the Hudson Valley,” said Crys McCuin, executive director of The Arc of Dutchess. “These awards recognize individuals who embody the spirit of seven special friends of our organization, as well as a few remarkable others truly worthy of the spotlight.”

Award recipients are honored in seven categories: the Sarah Studler Award, to a young professional who demonstrates boundless energy, optimism and generosity; the Peggy Martinko Award, to a trailblazer; the Kenny Dixon Award, to an individual with disabilities who demonstrates a “no excuse, can do” attitude and perseveres through life’s challenges with grace, dignity and strength; the Katz Award, to a selfless pioneer; the Frank Pessia Award, to an impassioned parent; the Mimi Stambrook Award, to a noble ally; and the Bessie Payne Award, to a humanitarian legend.

The employer of the year and The Arc of Dutchess Rising Star will also be honored at the event, which will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Dutchess Golf Club in Poughkeepsie. The public can submit nominations of deserving individuals via this link. All nominations will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee of The Arc of Dutchess Foundation Board.
