Citing a Dec. 23 letter from the club’s management to its members, the Journal reported that the club “will (be) closed and no longer in operation.”

The club, which had been owned by Dutchess Golf Club LLC, was taken over by a new owner on Nov. 18, 2015, according to the Journal, which reported that Poughkeepsie Town Supervisor Jon Baisley plans to meet with the current owner to discuss his plans for the property on South Road.

The Dutchess Golf Club was opened in 1897 and is one of the oldest golf courses in the United States, according to the Journal, which reported that it has experienced numerous management changes in recent years.
