BEACON, N.Y. -- Kim King of Beacon's Lauren & Riley women's clothing boutique said people always want to call her by one or the other when they walk into her store. But the truth is: she's neither. Instead, the store is named after her two daughters.
Having two girls means she knows what girls want. "Don't let the expensive looking window display scare you away," she said. "I'll always have good music on and my prices are very reasonable."
In fact, Lauren & Riley , which the Brewster resident opened in April, 2011, is a hodepodge of items you won't find everywhere else, everything from scarves to leggings, wallets, jewelry, candles, lotions, and tea.
"When it comes to the clothing, I only purchase six pieces of each item and when they are gone they are gone," said King. "I never duplicate anything."
That said, you can always expect the basics like camisoles, leggings, T-shirts, and so on. King said she tries to keep her price points on the lower end to accommodate the demographic.
She leans towards a vintage vibe and works hard to keep her inventory "fun and funky."
"I've been carrying things from a lot of sellers on Etsy," she said. "I especially like purchasing from them because I know they are made in the U.S. and they are almost always from small business people like myself. I love doing anything I can do to help small businesses."
Lauren & Riley is located at 462 Main St., (845) 831-3862; www.laurenandriley.com/ .
