Arnoff Moving & Storage received "Employer of the Year" from the American Legion Department of New York for its willingness to hire veterans. The company currently has 14 employees who are veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

Mike Arnoff, president, said they wanted to originally hire veterans as a way to give back.

"However we soon discovered that veterans make exemplary employees in a business like ours where we are driven by customer expectations of excellent service," Arnoff said. “Many of our veterans, during their time in the armed forces, learn a level of respect and pride in workmanship that’s very beneficial in our service culture.

Arnoff says that another benefit to employers hiring veterans is that they are workforce ready and understand regimentation, schedules and rules of engagement.

"We don’t have to tell a veteran to arrive on time and wear their uniform. They suit up and show up and take pride in their work. You don’t have to teach a vet how to work," Arnoff said.
